How You Should Use Your Photographer's Artistic Skills to Enhance Your Interiors

Why it’s important to hire a photographer who provides a full service.

So what do I mean here? Well, a lot of photographers will take very beautiful photos and then leave you to figure out where to put them in your house on your own. The thing is, what if the your home has a subtle and sophisticated colour scheme…photos of your beloved dog or cat taken on a bright or gauche backdrop would not compliment or enhance your overall home aesthetic, in fact it would most likely clash and look out of place.

This is why it’s important to have a full service photographer, who will design your wall art to compliment your home spaces right from the beginning. Before we even get to the studio or on location for a photoshoot, it’s important that we talk about your home, your design aesthetic and what you’re looking to achieve. If this all seems too much, then this is where I can help. I can do an in person visit with you to your home, or a virtual one instead, where I look at the overall design and then advice you on what wall art styles would look great and where. There are many things to take into consideration, such as: your home colour schemes; the wall areas available; your colour preferences in art; whether those preferences for art would compliment your home; and finally, whether those colours and styles would suit your animal’s fur and eyes, to bring out the best in them. Finally, we would discuss your preferences for the style of art finishes, such as framing, canvases, acrylics and so on.

So I hope you’ll see that by combining my artistic skills with a keen eye for design, we can create personalized, elegant spaces that truly reflect your style, as well as highlighting your love for your beloved four legged best friend.

Stunning example of how a five piece wall art arrangement can transform a living space. Here I’ve selected bolder warmer colours to bring life to the muted colour scheme of the room.

Understanding Your Vision

Identifying Your Style and Preferences First, let's talk about your tastes and preferences. What atmosphere do you want to create? Together, we'll explore how to integrate your love for pets into your decor seamlessly.

Assessing Your Space We'll evaluate each room where the artwork will be displayed. This helps in deciding the best placement for your pet portraits, considering your existing furniture, decor, and architectural features.

Designing for Different Room Types

Living Room In the living room, large, impactful portraits can serve as focal points, or we can create a gallery wall with smaller pieces, balancing the art with your furniture and lighting.

Bedroom For the bedroom, subtle and calming portraits can transform the space into a serene sanctuary. Think about placing them above the bed, or on a side wall instead.

Home Office Dynamic and engaging pet portraits can add inspiration and warmth to your home office. We’ll ensure they’re perfectly sized and positioned to keep you focused. Here’s where those whimsical photos would work best…something to bring some sunshine to you throughout your working day.

Hallways and Staircases Hallways and staircases are ideal for a series of small to medium works curated into galleries and so creating a visual journey through your home.

This is a perfect example of how even a small hallway space can be made to look extra special and stunning with a large single canvas photo. Notice how the muted browns and golds in the portrait perfectly complement the taupe in the wall, as well as the warm tones in the metal decorations and lamp. It brings a real sense of harmony and design to the small space.

Dining Room Elegant and sophisticated pieces can enhance the dining experience. We'll choose the perfect spots to complement your dining furniture and overall ambiance.

Coordinating with Colour Schemes

Matching Art to Neutral Tones Black and white or portraits with more neutral colours, work beautifully with neutral palettes, adding a timeless touch. Although I’ve used the word neutral here twice, it needn’t be boring. in fact an old master’s style warm dark green background, or even a subtle but deep brown and gold background can really elevate your living space.

Complementing Bold Colours For bold wall colors, we can choose pieces that either contrast or match, creating a cohesive and harmonious look.

Harmonizing with Soft Pastels Soft pastels call for delicate, subtle art that blends seamlessly without overpowering the room’s gentle aesthetic.

Incorporating Multiple Colours We’ll select versatile pieces that work well across varied color schemes, ensuring a balanced and cohesive look.

Here a selection of photos for this family’s dogs, taken on warm earthy browns, matches the colour of the leather sofa exactly, bringing a cohesion to the design of the space. The browns in these photos are still very subtle and muted and so are a perfect complement to the forest green of this living room.

Framing and Presentation

Choosing the Right Frame The right frame enhances your art without overshadowing it. We’ll match frame styles to your decor, whether it’s traditional, modern, or rustic.

Matting Techniques Matting adds depth and sophistication. We’ll choose mat colors and textures that complement both the art and your room.

Gallery Wall Arrangements For a gallery wall, we’ll plan a strategic layout to ensure a cohesive and balanced display.

Final Touches and Installation

Placement and Proportion Proper placement and proportion are key. I can advise you where to hang your art at the right height and scale, considering the impact of lighting.
